SAN JOSE -- One San Jose police officer was injured after his car collided with a tree while chasing a drug suspect on Saturday, San Jose Police reported.
As of midday Sunday, police had not apprehended the suspect, whose name is not being released.
The officer, whose name also is not being divulged, was treated for head and back pain, Officer Jason Dwyer said.
At about 8:18 p.m. Saturday, police noticed a parolee, who was wanted on a narcotics warrant, driving in the area of South 11th and East Santa Clara streets, said police spokesman Dwyer. The suspect fled in his vehicle, with police in pursuit. Police stopped it in the 100 block of South 11th Street, between East Santa Clara and East San Fernando streets, but the suspect fled on foot.
One of the pursuing patrol cars collided with a palm tree. The officer was taken to Regional Medical Center and treated for a bump on his head, a concussion and back pain.
Officers conducted a yard to yard search but did not locate the parolee.
